InfoSAWIT, KUALA LUMPUR – Apical Group, one biggest palm oil exporter in Indonesia that has and controls vast spectrum of palm oil supply chain from upstream to its distribution, is in the 2nd ranked as one most transparent palm oil company globally in 2021 SPOTT (Sustainable Palm Oil Transparency Toolkit) Assessment. The company was in the 8th rank in 2020.
Director of Sustainability Apical Group, Bremen Yong said, Apical keeps dedicating to assure that the company implements sustainable practice in its supply chain, starting from the cultivation to consumption
“As part of our commitment to transparency, we participated in SPOTT Assessment before the framework developed by ZSL (Zoological Society of London) since 2019. Our latest score reflected proactive initiatives and emphasis that we focus to three pillars, they are, environment, social, and governance (ESG),” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Tuesday (23/11/2021).
The twelve month – assessment evaluated palm oil producers, processors, and traders on their public disclosure about organizations, policy, and practices about ESG issues. Of 10o companies which were assessed, Apical got 89,4% score or increased 8,36% from 2020 score which was 82,5%. The 2021 score is much higher than average industrial score which was 42,7%.
The companies in SPOTT got rank according to their SPOTT score in total. The score was divided into three disclosures, such as, organizations, policy, and practices. There are 182 indicators in 10 categories used in SPOTT assessment for palm oil producers, processors, and traders.
Bremen Yong also mentioned, Apical realized that SPOTT is significant platform to promote industrial transparency and accountability to encourage the best social and environmental practices. “Especially in the sector that has something to do with high conservation,” he said.
This is the third year in a row for Apical Group ranked in big eleven palm oil plantation company globally according to transparency and management commitment to ESG. (T2)
