Rokan Hulu: Ready to be Mills Project - Smallholders to Succeed

InfoSAWIT, ROHUL – District of Rokan Hulu (Rohul) in Riau Province where it is hilly and flat areas, has the widest palm oil plantations in Indonesia. 2/3 of the district are planted by palm oil trees or about 553.000 hectares.

In its geographic, Rohul is next to West Sumatera Province and North Sumatera. It has access to Dumai Port.

By the facts, Chairman of Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS) Rokan Hulu, Yusro Fadly did welcome what the government would do to be as the pilot project of palm cooking oil mills from three regions proposed in the first place.

Yusro thought, what the government would do is good enough because from the old day – experiences, namely about the rare palm cooking oil in this country, everyone should discuss to get the best solution. “As the smallholders, we really and fully support the plan,” Yusro said to InfoSAWIT, Tuesday (31/5/2022).

This plan would be realized by the supports from President Joko Widodo, Minister of Cooperation, Small Medium Business, SPKS, and FORTASBI that approved two smallholders’ associations joining in a cooperation to build palm cooking oil mills in smallholder cooperation – base.

Fadly thought, Rohul where 50% of the villagers are independent smallholders would be helpful by the plan. Besides having abundant material, the investment in Rohul also supports the plan.

“Besides, the plan would deliver kinds of works for young generations,” Fadly said. (T2)
