The Coordination Among Smallholders, Minister of Agriculture, and Plantation Agencies

InfoSAWIT JAKARTA – To respond what the government published (about crude palm oil (CPO) materials and palm cooking oil export ban) which has been effectively running since 28 April 2022, Ministry of Agriculture, the smallholders, and plantation agencies in palm oil centers conducted meeting.

It was about to involve many sides to help the smallholders in Indonesia by buying their fresh fruit bunch (FFB) production maximally for the nation. Ministry of Agriculture would fight for the smallholders’ interests and CPO and its derivative export ban should immediately be revoked.

Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo mentioned, in his ministry, the main job to do is about to increase plantation productivity. But he also supported to revoke the export ban to maximally buy smallholders’ FFB by the mills.

“Everything is for the nation and the country, for the smallholders’ interests. If the industries are powerful, the smallholders are too and vice versa,” he said.

There are some conclusions in the meeting, the first, Minister of Agriculture asked for everyone’s commitment to formulate the issues and get the solution together. The second, it needs to encourage the mills to buy smallholders’ FFB through regional agency and the governor should be in the front line (to realize it) and Minister of Agriculture is ready to support.

The third, the target is about to revoke CPO and its derivative export ban to improve every impact that happened lately. The expensive fertilizers need to get solution as well. The fourth, Minister of Agriculture asked for everyone’s support to propose to President Joko Widodo (to revoke export ban). The fifth, in the long term, palm oil plantation governance should be managed better.

Minister Syahrul also took everyone who got the policy impact to get discussion and solution. He also delivered open invitation for everyone to meet on Tuesday (17/5/2022) to formulate the best policy that the government should publish to solve every latest issue. (T1)
