Thailand Struggles for the Expensive Palm Cooking Oil

InfoSAWIT, BANGKOK - Minister of Trade, Thailand, Jurin Laksanawisit promised to get solution on expensive palm cooking oil which is almost 70 baht (Rp 30.450) per bottle from 56-60 baht by the late of last year.

Jurin said this after monitoring the increasing price of daily products, including palm oil. He mentioned, palm cooking oil gets much more expensive because of the increasing price of palm kernel and crude palm oil (CPO).

Palm kernel gets more expensive for the past five years. It was 2 baht per kilogram in 2017 to be 10-11 baht per kilogram this year. He also mentioned, this is good for smallholders but has something to do with consumers.

“I have told Department of Internal Trade to get the best solution and confirm the balance for every stakeholder both smallholders, producers, and consumers,” he said, as quoted from Bangkokpost. (T2)
