InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - His cold hand has written eight palm oil books (one is in progress to be published). Maruli Pardamean was born in Sibolga, North Sumatra Province.
As a matter of fact, he started working at palm oil plantation after graduating his account, Faculty of Economic, Universitas HKBP Nommensen, Medan by the late of 1989. He directly worked as Head of Administration training of a plantation. His status was a training but in De facto, he was the Head of Administration.
But Maruli had simple thought to get into palm oil plantation at the period. For palm oil is the main material to produce palm cooking oil, the prospect would be better and there were lots of area to develop it.
After six month – training, he was officially taken as plantation head of administration. He was once as mill head of administration. He also involved in making plantation and mill budgets about production, direct costs (to plant, to mill operation), general charge and capital expenditure.
Keep learning – this is his principle. Learning should not be from a formal teacher but could be from books, magazines, partners in office, fields, mills, senior level, consultants at the company to get skill and knowledge transfer. “And other who got more experiences,” he recently said to InfoSAWIT.
Maruli thought, he always learns many things about palm oil. His career stepped up from head of administration to be management in many palm oil plantation groups both private and foreign companies. He struggled in palm oil world for about thirty years.
His will to share experience and knowledge performed him to write books about palm oil. His first book was “Panduan Lengkap Pengelolaan Kebun dan Pabrik Kelapa Sawit” which was published in 2008.
Many readers positively responded the book. The proof is that many questions and email written by the students, stakeholders, those who develop palm oil and general people who are interest in palm oil sector. The book was also published in Malayan with the title “Perusahaan Ladang dan Kilang Sawit.”
After that, he never stops writing anymore. Some of his books are “Sukses Membuka Kebun dan Pabrik Kelapa Sawit” (2011), “Cara Cerdas Mengelola Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit” (2011), “Mengelola Kebun dan Pabrik Kelapa Sawit Secara Profesional” (2014), “Kupas Tuntas Agribisnis Kelapa Sawit” (2017), dan “Best Management Practice Kelapa Sawit” (2017), and “Dunia Planter” (2021). They got positive responses.
Maruli mentioned, he is about to finish his eighth book, “Best Planter Practice”. It practically discusses the roles of human resources to manage and cultivate palm oil plantations, human resources management in palm oil plantations, how to escalate planters’ competency, profession, ideal planters, characteristic, and behavior at work.
Besides he is in cooperation with other practitioners and academy to write a book. The books are “Good Agriculture Practice Kelapa Sawit” in 2018 with Memet Hakim, Moch. Syaphon Adiwijaya, Taufik Darwis, and Atep Yulianto Irawan; “Budidaya Kelapa Sawit Hasil Selangit Secara Berkelanjutan - Seri 1” in 2019 with Memet Hakim, Atep Yulianto Irawan, Tiur Rumondang, Moch. Syaphon Adiwijaya, Lambok Silalahi, Fransius Simanjuntak, Vijay K Menon; and “Kisah Sukses Planter” in 2020 with Memet Hakim, Aris Purwo Yowono, and Ahmad Hulaimi.
“Since 2009 I regularly write articles to InfoSAWIT with different themes. I also became speaker in seminar in national scale about palm oil plantations. Hopefully sharing palm oil books would make palm oil get its glory,” he said. (T2)
