Ministry of Trade: There Would be Sanction that Breaks CPO Export Ban

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The government officially and temporarily banned palm cooking oil materials and palm cooking oil exports through Ministry of Trade. It is regulated by Regulation of Minister of Trade Number 22 / 2022 about Temporary Export Ban on Crude Palm Oil, Refined, Bleached and Deodorized Palm Oil, Refined, Bleached And Deodorized Palm Olein, and Used Cooking Oil. It is available since 28 April 2022 until palm cooking oil needs are fulfilled and sold at Rp 14.000/liter.

Minister of Trade, Muhammad Lutfi said, the exporters that break the regulation would get sanction according to the available regulations. “I want to confirm that the government and police and other legal institutions would supervise the policy,” he said in the virtual press conference, Thursday (28/4/2022).

He also mentioned, the policy (regulation) would be evaluated in time by conducting coordination in the level of Coordinator Ministry in Economy in every month or anytime needed.

It is the follow up of what President Joko Widodo instructed. Lutfi emphasized, the government’s major priority is to make sure that palm cooking oil is available and sold at the price in many regions in Indonesia.

“It was carefully decided by noticing the daily progress about bulk palm cooking oil procurement for the people. Of course, there would be impact from the policy but I reemphasized, this is for the people,” Lutfi said.

The temporary ban, he continued, is available for every customs, such as, from kawasan perdagangan bebas dan pelabuhan bebas (KPBPB) - Batam, Bintan, Karimun, and Sabang. “But if the exporters got notification registration numbers at least on 27 April 2022, they could do exports,” he said. (T1)
