The Planters: Beg to Review Palm Cooking Oil Material Ban

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The Government of Indonesia planned to ban palm cooking oil materials and palm cooking oil that would run on 28 April 2022 until undetermined time.

It is afraid that the bulking storages would be full and negative to palm oil plantations nationally.

Indonesian Planters Society (IPS) as professional planter association respected what President Joko Widodo decided for palm oil governance from the upstream to downstream does not run well.

But Chairman of IPS, Jamalul begged the government to review the policy because there will be new problems from the upstream to downstream sectors.

This would make crude palm oil and palm cooking oil in trouble namely for millions of people who depend on palm oil plantation products and the industries.

“The ban would cause palm cooking oil material oversupply in this country because it reached about 8,9 million tons to produce palm cooking oil while the production capability reached 56 million metric tons,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Monday (25/4/2022).

Jamalul also mentioned, the mills would stop processing for there is no more bulking storage to crude palm oil production because of oversupply in this country.

“When the mills stop operating, smallholders’ production which is fresh fruit bunch cannot be purchased and would be rotten in the tree. If it is harvested, they would get lost and the industries would do too,” he said. (T2)
