CPO Is Expensive Still: Production in Indonesia is Still Tight

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) reported that crude palm oil (CPO) at CIF Rotterdam in February 2022 was US$ 1.522/ton or increased about US$ 164 than it in January 2022 which was US$ 1.358/ton, or more expensive about US$ 469 compared to February 2021 which was only US$ 1.053/ton. “CPO at KPBN FOB in February was Rp 15.532/kg or increased from the previous which was Rp 14.811 in January 2022,” Executive Director of IPOA, Mukti Sardjono said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Tuesday (19/4/2022).

He mentioned, it happened for the vegetable fuel production in the world was not good, namely soybean in South America. CPO production in Indonesia in February 2022 could be 3.505 thousand tons and palm kernel oil (PKO) about 302 thousand tons or smaller than it in January 2022 which reached 3.863 thousand tons for CPO and 365 thousand tons for PKO. “This is seasonal factor,” he said.

The expensive price impacted to consumption and export. The consumption for food sectors in February 2022 reached 489 thousand tons which 17,3% was smaller than it in January 2022 which reached 591 thousand tons. Oleochemical consumption in February 2022 reached 178 thousand tons and biodiesel reached 710 thousand tons which if compared to January 2022 consumption, each decreased 2,7% dan 3%.

The total palm oil exports in February 2022 reached 2.098 thousand tons which got smaller than those in January 2022 which reached 2.179 thousand tons (-3,7%). It means, though it got more expensive, palm oil export value in February which reached US$ 2.799 million was still lower 0,6% from January value which reached US$ 2.816 million.  (T2)
