The Challenges of 2022 Palm Oil Production

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) reported that CPO production in Indonesia would be better than it in the previous period which decreased 0,9% to be about 46,6 million tons in 2021.

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) estimated, Malaysia’s CPO production in 2021 reached 18,3 million tons, decreased 0,9 million tons compared to 2020 production that reached 19,2 million tons.

In the early of 2022, CPO production would be better for the good agricultural cultivation, continuous operation, no impact from La Nina (intense rain).

But Council Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) reported, since Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, 75% of 500 thousand foreign workers as harvesters in Malaysia’s palm oil plantation never returned because of restriction in the country. This cut of CPO production in the country.

ASEAN Plantation Research Director, Leow Huey Chuen predicted, CPO production in 2022 is challenging. Fertilization was not maximally conducted since 2018/2019 because of the cheap CPO. (T2)
