Though It is Highly Risky, ANJ Got The Best ESG

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – By the late of 2021, two subsidiaries of ANJ, PT Sahabat Mewah dan Makmur (SMM) and PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Agri (ANJA) successfully got Gold Public Disclosure Program for Environment Compliance (PROPER) award from Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEF). ANJ was acknowledged by some institutions for its environment, social and governance (ESG) and openness in global level, such as, CDP, Sustainability Policy Transparency Toolkit (SPOTT), and Sustainalytics.

The rating by Sustainalytics as the advance ESG rating company which is a group of Morningstar, took ANJ in the first grade in Indonesia and the third in the globe within low risk ESG in many plantation companies whole over the world.

Sustainalytics rated that though ANJ faced high risk ESG, the management of the company did reliable risk management. Sustainability Policy Transparency Toolkit (SPOTT) as the platform to public disclosure in ESG of palm oil plantation companies scored 82,9%, far above the average of 100 palm oil plantation companies, which SPOTT rated 42,8%.

Just like the vision and mission of the company, ANJ commits to be the advance palm oil plantation company and the most ready - company to implement ESG. It is realized by strategic ways as parts of ANJ’s sustainability that covers organic, environmental material use from the waste, green-house gas emission reduction, fossil fuel and chemical fertilizer reduction.

“This year, we would continue our programs which have the same aspects with ESG to support our future progress, such as, replanting program in our plantations in Pulau Belitung and in North Sumatera 1, developing infrastructures in our plantations in West Papua and constructing organic fertilizer factory in West Kalimantan as the continuity of what we did in the previous in Pulau Belitung and North Sumatera 2,” Director of ANJ, Lucas Kurniawan said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Thursday (17/3/2022).
