Improve Every Issue in Smallholders Palm Oil Governance

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - For all these years, the government may not be serious to deal with smallholders’ plantation governance though it is regulated in Regulation of Minister of Agriculture Number 1 / 2018.

But the facts showed that the regulation is never applied. Chairman of SPKS Sekadau, Bernadus Mohtar said, the implementation of regulation is beyond imagination because the independent smallholders get losses from the governance.

The partnership supports with plantation companies did not run well because the independent smallholders never exist for them. This influenced smallholders in sustainable practices both in ISPO and RSPO schemes.

Bernadus Mohtar continued, it needs firm action to deliver regulation which has something to do with FFB governance according to Regulation of Minister of Agriculture Number 1 / 2018 and Governor’s Regulation Number 63 / 2018, and monitor mills in the district.

It also needs to facilitate and encourage smallholders’ institutions to conduct partnership with mills to trade FFB. It needs to awaken smallholders that it is important to get organizations, such as, groups in cultivating palm oil plantations.

“We always support to escalate smallholders’ capacity, develop them to get ISPO or RSPO certificates,” Mohtar said. (T2)
