InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Some representatives of independent smallholders met President Joko Widodo at Istana Merdeka, Wednesday (23/3/2022). There were some discussion in the meeting, such as, innovations that smallholders did and also there is no smallholder representatives in Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA).
General Secretary of Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS), Mansuetus Darto told, at least, there are six result from the meeting with President Joko Widodo, such as, the first it is significant to get data about independent smallholders and would be in coordination; the second, there will be coordination about extending palm oil moratorium.
The third, it needs to encourage palm oil mills for the smallholders in Central Kalimantan and Riau which the main goal is to produce palm cooking oil. The fourth, the government would encourage the partnership between independent smallholders and biodiesel industries. This is important and should immediately be realized, the president emphasized.
The fifth, PFMA would be improved and put representative of independent smallholders in it. “The sixth, it needs to encourage sustainable practices with its palm oil certification to get independent smallholders have better bargaining position,” Darto said. (T2)
