Wilmar Renovates Houses in 20 Villages in Central Kalimantan

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Palm oil plantation company, Wilmar Group renovated houses to help the villagers in 20 villages in District of Seruyan and Kotawaringin Timur, Central Kalimantan. Launched in 2014 until now, the company has renovated more than 100 people’s houses in the districts.

Village of Sembuluh II and Pematang Limau, District of Seruyan are two of 20 villages that the villagers’ houses were renovated.

Ahmad Sukur, Head of Village of Sembuluh II told that, on behalf of the villagers, he appreciated the company for helping the villagers to get better house to live. He also invited the representatives of the company to see the villagers’ houses which had been renovated in person. “We are excited. If it can go on, we will be grateful,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.

The villagers of Sembuluh II, for many years, got Wilmar’s people empowerment programs, such as, providing mentor in plantations and educational management consultation in vocational school or Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) Kertapati since 2007. The company develops the people’s plantations.

Head of Village of Pematang Limau, Sahroni told, they are very enthusiastic and really helped by the house renovation. There was no house renovation program in the village. He hoped, the company would continue the same program or others. “The helps are right on target because the people need it,” he said.

Community Development Manager Wilmar Group Central Kalimantan, Maman Sucherman said, the people and regional government positively respond the program because house renovation is identical with Wilmar. Since it was launched, house renovation was incidentally conducted and becomes a sustainable program in every operational of the company in the Bumi Tanjung Bungai province.

“House is one need. We hope that by having good house, they focus to work and increase their income to get better life,” Maman said.

There are criteria for the people to get the program, such as, minim economy, disability, old widow, and others. The people who are in need could propose themselves to the village government, and should be told to the company for verification. The fund in the program from the company would be Rp 30 - 40 million per unit and to buy materials. The renovation program is planned to end this year.

The renovation program was rewarded by Ministry of Social in 2018 for being successful to help and increase the people’s economy. (T2)
