InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Covid-19 pandemic which hits many sectors in Indonesia really contracts our economy. When many development sectors in Indonesia hit issues, agriculture and plantations got positive outcome.

Palm oil is one of the positive one in pandemic. It delivered exchange about US$ 22,97 billion or about Rp 321,5 billion in 2020. Palm oil sectors hire 16,2 million men. 4,2 million of the numbers were direct workers while 12 million men were indirect ones.

Director of Fund Plan and Distribution, Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA), Kabul Wijayanto said, palm oil is used in many daily products in relatively economic price. “But of the positive impacts, negative issues always corner the golden commodity, such as, environment, deforestation, fire, and others,” he said in a webinar.

He also mentioned, of the negative issues, many are not based on field facts. For Indonesia, palm oil is one mainstay commodity to support economy when pandemic takes place.

“This is the task for stakeholders to diversify palm oil products. Palm oil should not be the same with others which once hit the glory but then collapsed because of no development,” he said. (T2)
