To Save Mangrove, Apical Group Took DKI Jakarta

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Apical Group, one sustainable palm oil company in cooperation with Park and Forestry Agency of Jakarta supported the regional government to rehabilitate mangrove. The initiative was part of mangrove rehabilitation plan in Indonesia that covers more than 600 thousand mangrove areas in 2024 to fight for climate change.

Bulan Menanam Pohon Indonesia which runs on every 28 November to 28 January is the moment for many sides to conserve and save forest ecosystem, including mangrove. This is important knowing that mangrove forest is one key to save the balance of water ecosystem and local economic sustainability.

Director of PT Asianagro Agungjaya, Fandy Fong said, the support to restore and conserve forest landscape in Indonesia is the same with Apical ‘s commitment not to cut off (deforestation), but protect forest with high conservation value, and high stock carbon. Mangrove forests play the important roles to climate change in Indonesia.

“By the activity, we want to encourage others to join Apical to help forest ecosystem restoration and contribute to neutral carbon goal that the government published,” he said as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Wednesday (22/12/2021).

Head of Park and Forestry Agency, Jakarta, Suzi Marsitawati said, the restored and rehabilitated mangrove has ecologic, economic and social values. The program is about to reduce carbon emission between 107,3 and 455,2 million tons of CO2/hectare per year which only can be realized by the supports of companies and people’s participation.

“We are grateful for being helped by Apical through PT Asianagro Agungjaya. By the initiative, we hope to involve the local to manage mangrove forest sustainably and conduct responsible ecosystem in it,” she said.

Forest and mangrove rehabilitation project is about to monitor, conserve restoration areas in North Jakarta, increase local economic. It is around 80 hectare -conservation areas of Pantai Muara Karang. Apical Group plans to support two other mangrove conservation areas, they are, Hutan Kota Cilincing and Hutan Kota Rorotan during the program runs. (T2)
