FGD Sawit Berkelanjutan Vol. 11: Risks in Palm Oil Green Fuel Need Consideration

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Researcher of Sustainable Palm Oil Support Indonesia (SPOSI), M Ichsan Saif said that the government of Indonesia always tries to increase palm oil biodiesel mixture to diesel, and develop green fuels, as the way to realize energy independency. It is normal if the program is into national strategic project (RPJMN 2019 - 2024), and followed up to develop green refinery by PT Pertamina in Plaju and Cilacap.

But the program will spend much. For there are high needs while harga indeks pasar (HIP) of green fuels is Rp 14 – 17 thousand per liter, to get biodiesel about Rp 10 – 11 thousand per liter, there will be changing structures in supply chain and actors.

He said, it is acceptable that vegetable fuel development is about to improve energy security and exchange deficit in fuel trade, to maintain palm oil price globally from its controvercy and the abundant stocks of palm oil but there are risks to consider, such as, fund capability that Palm oil Plantation Fund Management Agency manages to subsidize biodiesel, and what will be green fuels in the future. There would be market competition among biodiesel, green fuel and electric vehicle. “The important thing is that there will more areas to get,” Saif said at Focus Group Discussion (FGD) SAWIT BERKELANJUTAN VOL 11, with the theme “Minyak Sawit Sebagai Minyak Nabati Berkelanjutan Terbesar Dunia”, that InfoSAWIT virtually conducted, Thursday (9/12/2021).
