Cooking ‘Rendang’ Using Palm Oil Cream: More Practical and Cheaper

InfoSAWIT, BOGOR – In the recent days, Fakultas Teknologi Pertanian (Fateta) Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University and Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) launched the innovation “Rendang Seasoning Mix in Palm Oil Creamer”, on Saturday (04/12/2021).

Professor of Technology Department Fateta IPB University, Prof Erliza Hambali, said, palm oil can be processed to be some food products, such as,  non-dairy creamer (NDC).

NDC from refined bleached deodorized palm oil (RBDPO) is engineered creamer made of vegetable oil. It can be used as creamer flour to develop rendang seasoning mix. “Using rendang seasoning mix can boil rendang faster to be one hour and it is more practical,” Head of Divisi Teknologi Proses TIN IPB University, said.

In the same occasion, Dean of Fateta IPB University, Prof Slamet Budijanto mentioned that palm oil significantly contributes to exchange. What is better is that palm oil and kernel oil can be processed to get more innovation.

“Unfortunately, Indonesia still imports one derivative product, which is, glycerin monostearate. The added value – downstream products need development and supports,” he said in official page of IPB University.

Director of Partnership PFMA, Edi Wibowo mentioned that the cooperation between PFMA and IPB University is about to strengthen partnership with small, medium businesses and unions. He thought, plantation sub sectors, such as, palm oil urged to get economic development in Indonesia. “Palm oil industries play massive roles to support sustainable development goals in employment and renewable energy,” Edi said.
