CPOPC: Fight for Palm Oil Negative Propaganda

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Minister of Plantation Industry and Commodity, Malaysia, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin at the 9th Ministerial Meeting Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) told that she concerned about palm oil negative campaign that many (countries) told. Palm oil, in facts, is much more efficient than other kinds of vegetable oil. CPOPC needs to respond the accusation seriously.

“Indonesia and Malaysia will clearly declare that we are progressive countries. The negative campaigns are not right. We are the pioneer in palm oil markets and industries. The process of 4 observer countries to be CPOPC members will be fast,” she said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Saturday (4/12/2021).

Datuk Zuraida also mentioned that CPOPC secretariat should deliver input and recommendation to its members about developing policy and regulation. “And other countries that bought palm oil, one thing for sure, this will influence palm oil industries,” she said.

Meanwhile Coordinator Minister in Economy Indonesian Republic, Airlangga Hartarto said, it needs to monitor, study, and suggest every advocacy campaign to get synergic and something useful to promote sustainable palm oil. “This could minimize or reduce negative sentiment,” he said.

In the event, winners of Short Story Competition about Smallholder’s Life were announced and the launching of winners’ book Oil Palm Small Farmers: Our Stories, Our Lives, Our Future. It was part of CPOPC public communication to escalate world people’s awareness about palm oil contribution to realize sustainable development goals. (T2)
