InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA — The government's efforts to elevate the potential of smallholder palm oil continue to be reinforced with the launch of the second edition of the Catalog of 100 Palm Oil SME Products by the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP). This catalog symbolizes the transformation of palm oil from merely an export commodity to a source of innovation and local economic empowerment through the hands of Small, Micro, and Cooperative Enterprises (SMEs).
The second edition catalog features 100 superior products produced by palm oil SMEs from various regions in Indonesia during 2024 to 2025. It not only showcases food products based on sustainable palm oil but also includes creative products derived from palm oil waste, such as handicrafts, cosmetics, body care, textiles, and organic fertilizers.
"The launch of this catalog is part of our tangible contribution to driving the palm oil industry towards a greener, more inclusive, sovereign, and sustainable direction," stated BPDP's President Director, Eddy Abdurachman, during the launch event at the BPDP Auditorium, attended by InfoSAWIT on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
BPDP views SMEs as the frontline in promoting the utilization of palm oil research and innovation to reach the community. Through this catalog, BPDP aims to demonstrate that research and development results do not stop in laboratories but can be processed into real products with high economic value and competitiveness.
"We want palm oil SMEs to not only focus on primary production but also advance in utilizing waste and palm oil derivatives into market-oriented, environmentally friendly products," explained Eddy.
This catalog also serves as a strategic promotional platform that facilitates businesses, consumers, and investors in discovering and supporting SME palm oil products. The hope is that the public will recognize that palm oil is not just about cooking oil but also about creativity, independence, and sustainability.
To date, palm oil remains the backbone of Indonesia's economy. However, behind the large-scale industry that has a global reach, millions of small business actors also support the palm oil supply chain. Through the empowerment of palm oil SMEs, BPDP aims to open more entrepreneurial opportunities in regions, including non-palm oil centers.
This empowerment aligns with the mandate of Presidential Regulation No. 132 of 2024, which emphasizes the importance of promoting and expanding the market for plantation products. In this context, BPDP actively encourages training, workshops, networking expansion, and access to financing for palm oil SMEs.
In 2023, BPDP successfully reached 547 SME actors, which increased to 798 in 2024. By May 2025, 532 SMEs had participated in the promotion and development of palm oil products. Some of these have now made it into the catalog after receiving further guidance.
Eddy Abdurachman emphasized that all palm oil SME programs align with President Prabowo Subianto's vision, particularly in promoting national independence. He believes that sustainably managed palm oil will significantly contribute to economic resilience, job creation, and the welfare of the people.
"These positive achievements must be maintained and enhanced. The synergy of all stakeholders—from farmers, cooperatives, local governments, to investors—is key to the future of an independent and competitive Indonesian palm oil industry," he added.
This catalog is expected not only to serve as promotional material but also as a source of inspiration and learning. BPDP invites all parties—especially palm oil SMEs and cooperatives—to use this catalog as a roadmap for developing value-added products.
With this catalog, small-scale palm oil products from various regions now have a national stage. It showcases creativity and proves that palm oil can yield numerous benefits—not just for the global market but also for local households, local markets, and regional economies. (T2)
