DPR Urges Strict Action Against Dishonest Minyakita Producers

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Cindy Monica, a member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), urged the government to take strict action against Minyakita producers who have been proven to commit fraud by selling products that do not meet the specified measurements. She believes such actions harm the public and could undermine public trust in the subsidized cooking oil program.

“This case shows the potential for fraud that harms the public. We urge the government and relevant authorities to take immediate and strict action against producers who violate regulations,” Cindy stated in an official statement on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

The NasDem Party politician emphasized that Minyakita was introduced as a solution to ensure affordable cooking oil for the public. However, if there are producers who are dishonest in measuring the contents of their packaging, the credibility of the program could be called into question.

Cindy called on the Ministry of Trade and related agencies to conduct a thorough audit of all Minyakita producers to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

“I encourage the Ministry of Trade and related agencies to conduct a comprehensive audit of all Minyakita producers. If violations are found, there must be strict sanctions, ranging from severe warnings to the revocation of business licenses,” emphasized the legislator from the West Sumatra II electoral district.

Furthermore, Cindy stressed the need for tighter supervision of the production and distribution of Minyakita to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. She reminded that consumers have the right to receive products that match the measurements they purchase.

“The public has the right to receive products that correspond to what they buy. Moving forward, supervision must be tightened to prevent similar cases from happening again,” she concluded.

The government is expected to take concrete steps to address these allegations of fraud, including further investigations and law enforcement against those proven to have violated regulations. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has quickly responded to recent findings regarding Minyakita cooking oil products, where it was discovered that 1-liter packages only contained 750-800 milliliters.

Moga Simatupang, Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order, revealed plans to take strong action against companies or producers involved in these fraudulent practices. Moga stated during the 2025 Inflation Control Coordination Meeting that there have been viral reports on social media regarding the issue of insufficient volume in Minyakita products.

“We have taken similar actions in Mauk in January,” Moga said, emphasizing previous steps taken by Kemendag against a Minyakita distributor in Mauk, Tangerang Regency, Banten. The distributor was sealed by Kemendag due to alleged violations.

One of the violations mentioned is the production of Minyakita that does not match the capacity stated on the packaging, which clearly violates Law No. 19 of 1981 concerning Legal Metrology. (T2)
