Boyke Suratin, the former Intelligent Market Marketing at PTPN VI and Chairman of Committee II for Foreign Relations and Inter-Institutional Affairs at the Indonesian Planters Society (IPS), revealed that the CPO prices on the Malaysian Exchange for contracts in March, April, and May 2025 rose to RM 4,669, RM 4,520, and RM 4,417, respectively.
"This figure represents an increase compared to the previous day, which recorded RM 4,600, RM 4,456, and RM 4,349," Boyke explained.
Meanwhile, as reported by Reuters, palm oil futures prices on the Malaysian Exchange saw a slight increase on Thursday (March 6, 2025), following movements in other vegetable oils on the Dalian and Chicago exchanges, although caution regarding U.S. tariff increases limited the gains.
The price of palm oil futures (FCPOc3) for May 2025 delivery on the Malaysian Derivatives Exchange rose by RM 2 per ton, or approximately 0.05%, reaching RM 4,419 (US$ 998.42) per metric ton at midday.
Anilkumar Bagani, Head of Vegetable Oil Research at Mumbai-based Sunvin Group, stated that the market remains cautious due to ongoing confusion regarding U.S. tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
In response, China retaliated against the new U.S. tariffs imposed on Tuesday, raising import duties on American agricultural and food products worth $21 billion, bringing the two largest economies closer to an all-out trade war.
Soybean oil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) rose by 1.09%, while the most active soybean oil contract on Dalian (DBYcv1) increased by 0.71%. The palm oil contract (DCPcv1) also saw a rise of 0.77%.
