InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – PT Menthobi Karyatama Raya Tbk (MKTR) continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation in the plantation industry by building a biomass plant based on empty fruit bunches (EFB Pellet). Through its subsidiary, PT Menthobi Hijau Lestari (MHL), the company has officially partnered with PT Suar Energi Futura in a Joint Operation Agreement to establish a production facility with a capacity of 10 tons per hour.
MKTR's Director, Pahlevi Pangerang, described this project as a strategic step in utilizing palm waste to support the transition to green energy. “The establishment of this plant provides a solution for the palm oil industry in addressing the issue of empty fruit bunch waste while also presenting a more environmentally friendly renewable energy source,” he stated, as quoted by InfoSAWIT from an official statement on Tuesday (March 4, 2025).
The plant is targeted to enter the commercial phase in the fourth quarter of 2025. As a preparatory step, since November 2024, MHL has been conducting small-scale production trials to ensure that the products meet industry standards.
MHL's Director, Dadan Ramdhani, explained that EFB Pellets have various advantages, such as high calorific value, low potassium and chlorine content to reduce corrosion risks in boilers, and moisture content that meets combustion efficiency standards. “We have conducted burning tests comparing EFB Pellets and palm shells, and the results exceeded our initial expectations. This confirms the significant potential of EFB Pellets as an alternative energy source,” said Dadan.
He is optimistic that the establishment of this plant will be a game changer in the palm waste management industry, enhancing efficiency and profitability for the company while supporting the government's targets in the green energy transition. EFB Pellets are considered an economical energy source that can be used for industrial needs and power generation.
This innovation aligns with the government's vision to promote the use of green energy, as outlined in President Prabowo's administration's energy targets. With the construction of this biomass plant, MKTR is further strengthening its position in the green industry and creating added value for stakeholders. This step also demonstrates that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand in the national plantation industry. (T2)
