PT SMART Tbk and USU Hold Talk Show Discussing the Future of the Palm Oil Industry

InfoSAWIT, MEDAN – PT Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology Tbk (PT SMART Tbk) collaborated with the Research and Innovation Development Agency of the University of North Sumatra (BPRI USU) to hold the event "Sinarmas Agribusiness and Food Goes to USU: Business Insight Talkshow and Campus Hiring" at the Prof. Suhadji Hadibroto Auditorium, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) USU. This event raised the theme “The Future of Palm Oil: The Role of Gen-Z and Technology in Driving Innovation.”

Prof. Arida Susilowati, Manager of Global Partnerships at USU, representing USU Rector Prof. Muryanto Amin, emphasized the relevance of the theme to the current industry conditions. According to her, palm oil is a leading commodity that plays a significant role in the economy, especially in North Sumatra. She also highlighted the importance of youth involvement in the development of this sector. “Generation Z is known for being adaptive and creative. We hope they can drive innovation in the palm oil industry,” said Prof. Arida, as quoted by InfoSAWIT from USU's official website on Saturday (March 1, 2025).

At the same time, Yudi Heriyadi, Lead HRBP for US Operations at PT SMART Tbk, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to share insights at USU. He emphasized that the younger generation plays a crucial role in the advancement of the palm oil industry. “The current generation will be the future leaders of this industry,” he stated.

Yudi also noted that the collaboration between USU and PT SMART Tbk is a strategic step to prepare human resources that meet industry needs. He assured that this collaboration will continue. “USU is a strategic partner in preparing competent workforce in the plantation sector,” he said.

Meanwhile, Buchari, Head of BPRI USU, added that this event provides new insights for students regarding job opportunities in the palm oil industry, particularly at PT SMART Tbk. He also highlighted the importance of innovation in utilizing palm oil by-products, including palm trunk waste. “Through this event, students gain a clearer picture of job prospects in the palm oil industry and the innovations that can be developed,” he stated.

With this event, it is hoped that more students will be interested in pursuing careers and innovations in the palm oil sector, ensuring that the industry continues to develop sustainably with the support of technology and quality human resources. (T2)
