As reported by Reuters, palm oil futures prices on the Malaysian Exchange fell on Thursday (February 20, 2025), weighed down by profit-taking, while traders awaited clarity on Indonesia's potential revision of its palm oil export levies.

The May 2025 palm oil futures contract on the Malaysian Derivatives Exchange fell by RM 15 per ton, or about 0.32%, to RM 4,657 (US$ 1,051.72) per metric ton at midday. The contract price had risen by 3.73% in the previous session.

Anilkumar Bagani, Head of Commodity Research at Sunvin Group based in Mumbai, stated that there is market speculation regarding Indonesia's export restrictions on palm oil ahead of Ramadan and the possibility of India raising its import tax on vegetable oils from 10% to 15%, which is also causing fluctuations in the market.

The most active soybean oil contract in Dalian rose by 0.48%, while its palm oil contract increased by 2.15%. Soybean oil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade rose by 0.3%.
