InfoSAWIT, SOUTH TAPANULI – In an effort to bolster national food security, PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Agri Siais (ANJAS), a subsidiary of PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Tbk. (ANJ), officially launched the "Kesatria Ketapang" program in Pardomuan Village, South Angkola District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra. The program commenced with the inaugural planting of hybrid corn on Tuesday, January 22, 2025, as a demonstration of ANJAS's commitment to supporting sustainable food security in the region.
Kesatria Ketapang (Oil Palm Intercropped with Corn for Indonesia's Food Security) is an innovative approach that integrates corn cultivation with oil palm through an intercropping concept. This program utilizes the company's land under the Right to Cultivate (HGU) to enhance land productivity, stabilize food prices, and support community welfare, particularly in South Tapanuli.
In the initial phase, ANJAS has planted 30 kg of hybrid corn seeds over an area of approximately one hectare classified as Non-Productive Planting (TBM). With this intercropping pattern, it is expected that the corn will yield 4–5 tons per planting cycle. In addition to increasing agricultural production, this method also serves as a weed control measure that often hinders the growth of oil palm.
ANJAS General Manager, Mhd Amrol Siregar, emphasized that this program aligns with the company's vision of improving the quality of life and welfare of the community. "The Kesatria Ketapang program is expected to strengthen food security, especially in the South Tapanuli region, and provide widespread positive impacts for the community," Amrol stated in a press release written by InfoSAWIT on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
Furthermore, Amrol explained that this program is not ANJAS's first initiative in supporting food security. Previously, the company had implemented empowerment programs in the fisheries sector through alternative fish feed innovations. Additionally, ANJAS has established Women Farmers Groups (KAWANI) that actively cultivate various horticultural vegetables such as spinach, water spinach, and chili to enrich food diversification in the local area.
Amrol stressed the importance of collaboration between companies, the government, and communities in strengthening national food security. Moving forward, ANJAS is committed to continuously developing innovative programs that provide sustainable benefits for the community while supporting national food security. (T2)
