InfoSAWIT, BELITUNG TIMUR – PT Sahabat Mewah dan Makmur (SMM), a subsidiary of PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Tbk. (ANJ), collaborated with the Dendang Police and the Nyuruk Village Government to support national food security through a corn planting program. This activity was carried out on January 21, 2024, on a one-hectare plot of land owned by the Nyuruk Village Government, planting 15 kg of hybrid corn seeds.
This program is part of SMM's support for the Asta Cita program of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, aimed at achieving national independence through food self-sufficiency. SMM's General Manager, Mukhlisuddin Nasution, expressed hope that this program could help stabilize prices and ensure food availability for the community, thereby reducing dependence on imports.
“We consistently support government programs to achieve food security. Additionally, this corn planting program is an effort by the company to empower the community to be more independent and prosperous. We hope the community can develop food security independently to meet market needs,” Mukhlisuddin stated in an official statement received by InfoSAWIT on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Furthermore, the management of the corn land will be fully handed over to the Nyuruk community. This step aims to encourage active participation from residents in agricultural activities and strengthen the local economy.
The event was also attended by the Dendang Police Chief, the Dendang Sub-district Head, and the Head of Nyuruk Village along with village officials. The Dendang Police Chief, IPTU Diki, expressed appreciation to SMM for their support in this food security program. He hopes this activity can increase food production in the Dendang District and maintain food price stability.
A similar sentiment was echoed by the Head of Nyuruk Village, Gurdi, who emphasized that this program inspires the village government to be more active in food security efforts. He hopes similar activities can continue and be developed to improve community welfare.
In addition to the corn planting program, SMM has also undertaken various other efforts to support food security. The company has fostered four farmer groups in edamame cultivation in Dendang District and initiated vegetable garden and catfish farming programs in Dendang Village. These steps reflect SMM's commitment to building sustainable partnerships with the surrounding community. (T2)
