FPKBL and RSPO Present Eco-Friendly Batik Night at INACRAFT 2025

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The Forum for the Development of Batik Villages (FPKBL) in collaboration with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has introduced the latest innovation in the batik industry by launching palm oil-based batik wax. This initiative is part of a strategic partnership established since 2022, aimed at creating sustainable solutions for Indonesia's traditional batik industry.

In 2024, research and development between FPKBL and RSPO resulted in palm-based batik wax, a breakthrough that offers a more environmentally friendly alternative to petroleum-based paraffin. FPKBL successfully formulated batik wax containing 60% hydrogenated palm stearin (HPS), which has proven effective in the batik-making process while reducing dependence on fossil raw materials.

In an official statement received by InfoSAWIT on Monday, February 3, 2025, this innovation has garnered support from various key stakeholders who are also RSPO members. Apical plays a role in providing HPS for testing, WWF assists in developing sustainability action plans and supports the purchase of sustainable products, while CECT Trisakti University and Daemeter provide managerial and operational support. Additionally, Control Union is assisting in the RSPO certification process for FPKBL.

As part of efforts to introduce this innovation to a broader market, FPKBL will participate in INACRAFT 2025, Indonesia's largest craft exhibition, taking place from February 5-9, 2025, at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC). With the theme of Sustainability and Collaboration, this event serves as an ideal platform to promote sustainable batik practices.

During the exhibition, FPKBL will showcase batik products using sustainable palm-based wax and demonstrate the application of this technology in the batik-making process. The launch event for the palm batik night is scheduled for February 5, 2025, at Main Stage Hall B, JICC.

This activity also aims to gauge market responses and gather feedback from industry stakeholders, including potential buyers and supporters of sustainable products. (T2)
