InfoSAWIT, TOLITOLI – Tolitoli Regency, known as one of the clove-producing regions, faces significant challenges in improving palm oil productivity. According to the Head of the Plantation and Livestock Office of Tolitoli Regency, Hi. Herman Madjid, the low productivity of palm oil in the area is attributed to inadequate infrastructure and the use of inferior palm oil seeds.
"Many local residents order palm oil seeds online without verifying their quality. As a result, the palm oil production in this region remains low," Hi. Herman Madjid stated, as reported by InfoSAWIT from KBRN RRI on Tuesday (January 28, 2025).
To address this issue, the Plantation and Livestock Office of Tolitoli Regency has taken concrete steps by providing direct education to the community. This program aims to enhance farmers' understanding of the importance of using high-quality superior palm oil seeds. Additionally, the office is currently drafting a Regional Action Plan for Sustainable Palm Oil, which will serve as a guideline for improving palm oil productivity in the area.
"Through this education, we hope that palm oil productivity in Tolitoli Regency can increase significantly," added Hi. Herman.
Tolitoli Regency has substantial potential for palm oil development. However, its productivity is still considered very low compared to other regions in Indonesia. Therefore, Hi. Herman emphasized the importance of strategic measures to position palm oil as a leading commodity that can contribute more significantly to the regional and national economy.
The palm oil industry, which has become a major driver of Indonesia's economy, provides employment for around 16 million workers, both directly and indirectly. With increased productivity in Tolitoli, this sector is expected to have a positive impact on the local community and optimize the economic potential of the region. (T2)
