PT Mutiara Sawit Lestari Palm Oil Factory Burns Down in East Aceh, Here’s What Happened

InfoSAWIT, ACEH - The palm oil factory owned by PT Mutiara Sawit Lestari, located in Gampong Teumpen, Peureulak Barat District, East Aceh, reportedly caught fire on Saturday night, January 25, 2025, around 9:35 PM WIB. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

According to the Peureulak Barat Police Chief, Ipda Surya Darma, the incident was first noticed by a palm oil boiling operator named Efendi. Efendi saw sparks coming from the dynamo cable behind the boiling tank.

"Upon noticing the situation, Efendi immediately coordinated with the foreman for firefighting efforts. Although attempts were made using the hydrant pump, the flames were difficult to extinguish," said the Police Chief, as reported by InfoSAWIT from AJNN on Sunday (January 26, 2025).

Firefighting efforts involved deploying four fire trucks from the Peureulak and Ranto Peureulak stations. As of now, there have been no reports of casualties from the incident, although the material losses due to the fire have yet to be determined.

"The initial suspicion regarding the cause of the fire is an electrical short circuit," the Police Chief added.

Authorities are currently continuing their handling and further investigation into the exact cause and the damages incurred from the fire at the palm oil factory. The police are also coordinating with the factory owners to gain a deeper understanding of the chronology and impact of this incident. (T2)
