InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - The Indonesian Association of Small and Medium Palm Oil Mills (GAPPKES MIKEMINDO) has officially expressed full support for the government's B40 biodiesel mandatory program as a step towards achieving national energy independence.

B40 is a blend of palm oil-based biodiesel, consisting of 40% Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME) and 60% diesel fuel, in accordance with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Decree No. 341.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2024.

GAPPKES MIKEMINDO Chairman M. Salim Simangunsong stated that this initiative aligns with the national energy security agenda and the commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, in line with the vision of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

"This program is a noble step that should be supported by all citizens, especially those in the palm oil industry, as it has far-reaching impacts such as saving foreign exchange, significant job creation, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions," he said in an official statement to InfoSAWIT on Sunday (January 19, 2025).

Furthermore, M. Salim emphasized the importance of involving Mini Palm Oil Mills in supplying raw materials such as High Acid Crude Palm Oil (HACPO) and High ALB CPO to biodiesel plants. "We are ready to provide FAME and biocatalysts with the technology we possess, even on a small scale," he added.

Meanwhile, GAPPKES MIKEMINDO Secretary-General Arie Wijaya explained that there are approximately 527 Mini Palm Oil Mills across Indonesia, categorized into three groups based on production capacity. However, he also expressed concern over Mini Mills facing difficulties due to large mills switching to processing fruit bunches. "We urge the government to regulate large mills that have fully transitioned to fruit bunches, as this could jeopardize the palm oil industry and threaten the survival of Mini Mills," he stated.

Salim concluded his statement by asserting that Mini Mills under GAPPKES MIKEMINDO are not competitors but rather a solution for the welfare of Indonesian palm oil farmers. "Let us collaborate to advance palm oil as a sustainable national strategic commodity," he emphasized.

With the support from GAPPKES MIKEMINDO, it is hoped that the implementation of the B40 mandatory program can proceed smoothly and provide significant benefits for the national energy sector and the Indonesian economy. (T2)
