InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - The ESDM Ministry is targeting the completion of regulations related to the implementation of the 40% biodiesel blend (B40) within this week. This was stated by Deputy Minister of ESDM, Yuliot Tanjung, after attending a coordination meeting on corruption prevention at the Attorney General's Office.
"We hope the ministerial decision regarding B40 will be finalized this week," Yuliot said, as quoted by InfoSAWIT from Antara on January 4, 2025.
This regulation, which is currently in the final stages of consolidation following field checks conducted before the New Year 2025 celebrations, will serve as the basis for the B40 program, which consists of 60% diesel and 40% palm oil-based biodiesel.
According to Yuliot, the B40 program is still in a transitional phase, even though the regulations have been established. This phase is designed to ensure the readiness of infrastructure, distribution, and industry players to fully implement B40.
"The regulations have been set, but there is still a transition period for implementation," Yuliot explained.
This transition phase is expected to address various technical and logistical challenges that may arise, ensuring a smooth implementation of B40 at the beginning of 2025. B40 is part of the national strategy to enhance energy resilience and reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports. Additionally, this program aligns with the government's efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.
The government hopes that this regulation will serve as a strong initial step to promote the use of environmentally friendly fuels while providing economic benefits, such as increasing the added value of crude palm oil (CPO) and saving foreign exchange.
With the completion of this regulation, Indonesia is preparing to become one of the leading countries in the use of biodiesel based on domestic natural resources. (T2)
