Ministry of Trade Increases Supervision of Minyakita Distribution Ahead of Christmas and New Year

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) through the Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order (Ditjen PKTN) is intensifying the supervision of Minyakita distribution. This step is taken to ensure the availability and stability of cooking oil prices ahead of the National Religious Holidays (HBKN) for Christmas and New Year (Nataru).

Director General (Dirjen) PKTN, Rusmin Amin, led the supervision activities in Bekasi Regency, West Java, on Wednesday (December 18). In this activity, Rusmin was accompanied by the Acting Director of Trade Order Ronald Jenri Silalahi. "Kemendag is intensifying the supervision of Minyakita distribution ahead of HBKN Nataru. This supervision is conducted nationally together with 38 provincial trade offices and four Trade Order Supervision Centers (BPTN)," said Rusmin.

Rusmin revealed that the supervision results showed that there are still bundling practices by business actors, which is a strategy of selling Minyakita together with other less popular products. This practice is considered to potentially burden the price of Minyakita, which should remain in accordance with the highest retail price (HET). "This bundling practice is expected not to hinder the distribution of Minyakita and to comply with the HET set by the government," he emphasized.

In response to this bundling practice, Ditjen PKTN has sent evaluation letters to various business associations, including the Indonesian Cooking Oil Industry Association (AIMMI), the Indonesian Vegetable Oil Industry Association (GIMNI), and the Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (GAPKI), as well as 40 cooking oil producers. The letter contains an appeal to stop bundling practices to ensure smooth distribution.

Rusmin also stated that since November 13, 2024, Kemendag has supervised 295 business actors, including producers, repackers, distributors, sub-distributors, retailers, and modern retail. "Administrative sanctions have been imposed on business actors who violate the regulations," he added.

Furthermore, Rusmin emphasized that Kemendag, along with the Food Task Force (Satgas) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), is ready to take action against violations in accordance with applicable laws. He also encourages local governments and regional food task forces to be more active in supervising essential goods, especially ahead of HBKN Nataru. (T2)
