Disbun Bengkalis Holds Socialization of Palm Oil Rejuvenation Program for Farmers

InfoSAWIT, BENGKALIS – The Plantation Office (Disbun) of Bengkalis Regency held a socialization event for the Palm Oil Rejuvenation Program for Farmers (PKSP) on Wednesday, December 12, 2024. This activity aims to enhance the quality and productivity of palm oil plantations in the region through funding from the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP-KS).

The Head of Disbun Bengkalis, Mohammad Azmir, stated that this program is expected to strengthen collaboration between the government, farmers, companies, and other stakeholders. "We aim to realize a sustainable palm oil sector that benefits the economy of Bengkalis," Azmir said in a statement quoted by InfoSAWIT on Monday (December 16, 2024).

According to statistical data from 2023, the area of smallholder plantations in Bengkalis reached 326,694.56 hectares, with 86.9% being smallholder palm oil plantations involving 147,464 farming families.

Azmir emphasized the importance of support from all parties, from sub-district heads, village heads, to plantation associations, to encourage farmers to utilize this program. "The regulations from the Ministry of Agriculture open up significant opportunities for smallholder farmers to receive rejuvenation assistance, facilities, and infrastructure through BPDP-KS," he explained.

On the other hand, the Bengkalis Police Chief, represented by the Head of Intelligence, AKP Bagus Nagara Baranacita, reminded about legal sanctions related to land management in forest areas. Based on Law No. 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation, communities that have already farmed in forest areas will face administrative sanctions first to avoid criminalization.

The Head of Intelligence also urged the community, companies, and farmer groups to refrain from opening land in forest areas. "Cross-agency cooperation is crucial to prevent violations, and those involved in illegal farming will face strict sanctions according to regulations," he stressed.

The PKSP program is expected to bring significant benefits to palm oil farmers in Bengkalis while supporting sustainable and legally compliant plantation management. (T2)
