Trade Minister Engages DMSI on Palm Oil and Biodiesel Policies

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Trade Minister Budi Santo met with Sahat M. Sinaga, Chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Board (DMSI), at the Ministry of Trade on Monday (Dec. 9). The discussion focused on strategic issues in the national palm oil sector, including the mandatory Biodiesel (B40) policy set to launch in 2025, and efforts to stabilize cooking oil prices.

Minister Budi underlined the importance of balancing domestic crude palm oil (CPO) production to meet energy, food, and export demands, particularly in light of the B40 policy. “We seek insights and recommendations from DMSI to ensure that policies are fair and beneficial, especially in supporting food security,” said Budi during the meeting, as quoted by InfoSAWIT on Tuesday (Dec. 10, 2024).

The Ministry of Trade is committed to incorporating DMSI’s input to craft policies that promote sustainable development and community welfare while prioritizing energy and food needs.

Accompanying the Trade Minister were senior officials, including Director General of Domestic Trade Moga Simatupang, Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order Rusmin Amin, Essential Goods Director Bambang Wisnubroto, and Director of Agricultural and Forestry Product Exports Farid Amir.

This dialogue highlights the government’s commitment to engaging key stakeholders in shaping policies that bolster the palm oil industry, maintain price stability, and advance sustainable energy initiatives. (T2)
