Boosting Consumer Awareness Key to Sustainable Palm Oil Adoption

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA– Accelerating the adoption of sustainable palm oil remains a pressing issue for the industry. According to Mahatma Windrawan Inantha, Deputy Director of Market Transformation at the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), achieving broader acceptance of sustainable palm oil in global markets requires three key steps.

First and foremost is Raising Consumer Awareness. "Consumers are the key," said Windrawan. "They need to understand that sustainable palm oil is not just a trend but a necessity." Educating consumers on the benefits and importance of sustainable palm oil is essential. Broad campaigns using social media, digital platforms, and influencers can effectively introduce certified sustainable products to a wider audience.

The second step involves Engagement in the Global Supply Chain. Windrawan emphasized the importance of partnerships with international brands committed to sustainability. "Collaborating with these global players can provide a significant boost for palm oil producers in Indonesia," he explained.

Lastly, Windrawan stressed the critical need for Better Transparency and Reporting. "Consumers demand assurance," he stated. "They want to know that the products they purchase are truly sustainable." By enhancing transparency in the supply chain—from plantations to finished products—consumer trust can be strengthened. This transparency not only reassures consumers but also motivates more companies to adopt sustainable practices, as their environmental commitments become more visible.

These strategies underline the importance of a concerted effort involving education, collaboration, and transparency to ensure sustainable palm oil gains a stronger foothold in global markets. (T2)
