Sinar Mas Agribusiness Strengthens Support for Palm Oil Supply Chain Through Comprehensive Assistance

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – In its ongoing effort to enhance the sustainability of the palm oil supply chain, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food has launched various training and assistance programs aimed at independent smallholder farmers and other suppliers. According to Hero Sanjaya, Head of Supplier Compliance at Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food, these initiatives cover a wide range of areas, from sustainable practice training to operational support.

"We offer free assistance programs, including on-site visits to help suppliers understand and implement best practices. The goal is to ensure they are ready to meet the established sustainability standards," said Hero during the launch of the RISE Initiative and a celebration of RSPO certification, attended by InfoSAWIT in Jakarta on Wednesday (4/12/2024).

Hero explained that the program targets not only smallholder farmers but also palm oil mills (PKS) within the company’s supply chain. "Palm oil mills need support to comply with various sustainability standards. This is where we step in, providing training, data, and the necessary coordination to help them meet the expectations of international markets," he stated.

The assistance program, Hero continued, is designed with a collaborative approach involving local governments and private partners. One key focus is to help smallholder farmers and suppliers tackle economic challenges, such as the high costs of implementing sustainable palm oil practices.

"We understand that cost is a significant barrier for many suppliers and farmers in adopting sustainable practices. That’s why we not only provide training but also support them with data and tailored solutions to meet their specific needs," he added.

Sinar Mas Agribusiness’ approach aims to ensure that all elements of the supply chain contribute to sustainability. The practices implemented are not only economically beneficial but also have a positive impact on the environment and local communities.

Hero concluded by emphasizing the importance of synergy in creating a stronger supply chain. "We are thrilled to see the growing enthusiasm among suppliers who increasingly recognize the importance of sustainability. This proves that our efforts to build their capacity have made a positive impact," he remarked.

With its ever-evolving assistance programs, Sinar Mas Agribusiness aims to create a palm oil ecosystem that is not only globally competitive but also supports the well-being of farmers and suppliers across Indonesia. (T2)
