Government to Monitor Cooking Oil Supply and Prices Ahead of Christmas and New Year

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to overseeing and monitoring the supply and price of cooking oil nationwide. This initiative aims to maintain stability as the nation prepares for the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 celebrations.

The announcement was made during a coordination meeting on cooking oil, held today at the Ministry of Trade in Jakarta. The meeting, led by Minister Budi, brought together representatives from ministries, regional governments, industry associations, and distributors.

"This meeting is to ensure the availability of essential goods, particularly cooking oil, in preparation for the festive seasons of Christmas, New Year, and even Eid 2025. We are committed to monitoring and managing prices, distribution, and the supply of MINYAKITA across all regions," Minister Budi stated during the meeting, as quoted by InfoSAWIT on Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2024).

Minister Budi emphasized the importance of collaborative oversight to stabilize the price and supply of cooking oil, which directly impacts economic stability. The monitoring will involve joint efforts by the Ministry of Trade, the Food Task Force (Satgas Pangan), and local government agencies.

"The current average price of MINYAKITA is relatively stable at Rp 17,100 per liter, although still above the Highest Retail Price (HET) of Rp 15,700 per liter. Some price increases have been observed in eastern Indonesia due to rising demand. Additional supplies will soon be dispatched to these areas," Budi explained.

He also stressed that the government will rigorously oversee the distribution network and take strict action against any violations of the HET regulations.

The meeting, attended by key stakeholders including representatives from the Presidential Staff Office, the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency, the Ministry of Industry, and the National Logistics Agency (Bulog), resulted in a collective agreement to ensure a steady supply of MINYAKITA throughout Indonesia.

Among the notable attendees were the Ministry of Trade’s Inspector General Putu Jayan Danu Putra, Director General of Domestic Trade Moga Simatupang, and Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Compliance Rusmin Amin.

With these measures, the government aims to safeguard the supply and pricing of cooking oil during the year-end festivities, ensuring that essential goods remain accessible to the public. (T2)
