InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – On Friday, November 29, 2024, the Young Elaeis Ambassadors (#YEAs) program entered a new chapter with the launch of its second cohort. Initiated by the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), the program brings together young leaders from palm oil-producing and consuming nations to promote sustainability and address misconceptions about the industry.
The launch event was inaugurated by three prominent figures: Dida Gardera, Deputy for Food and Agribusiness at Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs; Dato’ Razali Bin Mohamad, Deputy Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Plantation and Commodities; and Rizal Affandi Lukman, Secretary General of CPOPC.
In his remarks, Rizal emphasized the collaborative commitment between Indonesia, Malaysia, and Honduras in ensuring sustainable growth for the palm oil industry. "By working together, we can secure the growth and sustainability of the palm oil sector for future generations," Rizal stated, as quoted by InfoSAWIT on Monday, December 2, 2024.
The #YEAs program aims to raise awareness and enhance the knowledge of young people about the socio-economic benefits and sustainability efforts in the palm oil industry. Through digital campaigns and educational activities, ambassadors are encouraged to share positive narratives both online and offline.
One participant, Lusita, a young ambassador from Bangka Belitung, expressed her pride in being part of the program. "I want to inspire the younger generation to understand the significance of the palm oil industry for both the economy and sustainability. I’m proud to share positive stories through my social media," she said.
From Malaysia, Izzuddin Bin Tuah shared similar sentiments, noting that the program provides opportunities to learn, expand networks, and deepen understanding of the industry’s role in ecosystem protection. Meanwhile, Juliette Martinez from Honduras highlighted the importance of sharing knowledge with communities to foster global awareness.
The program offers participants firsthand experiences through visits to palm oil production sites and conservation projects. These visits provide insights into sustainable practices, including efforts to conserve orangutans, elephants, and tigers.
Closing the event, Rizal underscored the importance of unity among global stakeholders. "Unity between producing and consuming nations is essential to overcome challenges and create a better future," he remarked.
With a spirit of collaboration, the second cohort of #YEAs is expected to become change agents, advancing the palm oil industry toward sustainability, inclusivity, and greater benefits for the world. (T2)
