InfoSAWIT, KUBU RAYA – WM (37), the Head of Administration at PT GAN 2, a palm oil plantation company in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan, has been arrested by the Sungai Raya Police on suspicion of embezzling operational funds amounting to Rp 954 million.
Sungai Raya Police Chief, AKP Hariyanto, stated that WM allegedly misused the company’s operational funds for personal purposes. “The suspect’s modus operandi involved creating fake purchase invoices and neglecting payments owed to a cooperative,” Hariyanto explained in a statement cited by InfoSAWIT on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
The case emerged following a report from the company’s management regarding irregularities that occurred between October 2023 and October 2024. During this period, WM, who was responsible for managing the company’s finances, received operational funds for various business needs.
However, police investigations revealed that WM diverted the funds for personal use. “Instead of allocating the funds as intended, the suspect is believed to have falsified purchase documents to conceal the misappropriation,” added AKP Hariyanto.
Moreover, WM failed to settle cooperative dues, which are among the company’s financial obligations. An internal audit uncovered a loss of Rp 954 million, prompting the company to file a report with the Sungai Raya Police.
Investigators have collected multiple pieces of evidence, including witness statements, purchase receipts, internal audit reports, and the suspect’s confession. Based on this evidence, WM has been named a suspect and is currently detained at the Sungai Raya Police Station.
“The suspect is charged under Article 374 of the Criminal Code for Embezzlement in Office, with a subsidiary charge under Article 372 for Embezzlement. The maximum penalty is five years in prison,” said Hariyanto, as quoted by Kompas.
The police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to uncover further motives and potential involvement of other parties. Meanwhile, PT GAN 2’s management has yet to issue an official statement regarding the case’s progress. (T2)
