InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA — Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Eniya Listiani Dewi, highlighted the government’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition and reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the Indonesia Energy Transition Dialogue (IETD) 2024 in Jakarta. Eniya emphasized that the government is moving forward aggressively with green energy policies.
“The government is fully committed to lowering emissions. With COP 29 happening next week, we hope to share good news. We are currently discussing the gradual phase-out of coal-fired power plants, while maintaining our pledge to reduce emissions,” Eniya stated, according to an official statement quoted by InfoSAWIT on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Eniya outlined four key energy security parameters that guide the government’s energy strategies: availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has already developed a roadmap aimed at achieving the country’s national energy targets.
“These four parameters will guide us in maintaining energy sustainability and security. At the ESDM Ministry, we have a roadmap directing us toward these goals,” she added.
Besides the energy transition, Eniya underscored that energy efficiency is a crucial part of the government’s focus. She explained that by implementing energy efficiency measures alone, the country could reduce national emissions by up to 32 percent.
“With the new cabinet, we will concentrate on investments in energy transmission and renewable infrastructure. We will also prioritize energy efficiency, which can help cut emissions by 32% through efficiency steps alone,” she explained.
To support energy efficiency efforts, the government is preparing regulations mandating energy management across all buildings in Jakarta. These new regulations, set to take effect next year, aim to enhance energy conservation in the building sector.
“We are pushing more aggressively for an improved energy mix and energy conservation, particularly in buildings throughout Jakarta. Starting next year, energy management will be mandatory in all buildings, with the necessary regulations currently underway,” Eniya concluded.
Through these policies and strategic initiatives, the government aims to reach sustainable energy targets, bolster national energy resilience, and uphold its commitment to emissions reduction, supporting global efforts to address climate change. (T2)
