InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Rain drops would be the key factors to get a successful palm oil plantation cultivation. Enough water would be the source of the trees that depend on rain drops to optimally grow and deliver qualified fresh fruit bunch (FFB).
As InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS), Sunday (20/10/2024), the rain drops would have something to do with the roots, leaves to be growing and FFB production. Enough rain drops would be efficient for the tress and would contribute to the high production.
The ideal rain drops for palm oil plantations, as PPKS researched, should be about 1.700 to 3.000 millimeters (mm) per year. It has to be equal whole over the year with the dry months not more than three months and the rain drops should be less than 60 mm per month. In the dry spell, it has to be not more than 20 days so the soil would not be water deficit 200 mm per month.
That is why it would be crucial to know the rain drops to maintain the plantation productivity and the smallholders would optimize it and could prevent the risks of decreasing production because of the lack of water.
Let us keep monitoring the rain drops in the plantations to get better production and sustainability. This information would be useful not only for the smallholders but also to get sustainable palm oil industries in a whole. (T2)
