From Indonesia, Expert Staff in Connectivity, Service, and Natural Resources, Coordinator Ministry in Economy, Musdhalifah Machmud led the discussion together with General Secretary of Ministry of Plantation and Commodity Malaysia, Dato' Yusran Shah Bin Mohd Yusof.

In the official statement, as InfoSAWIT quoted, Monday (14/10/2024), the biggest two producer countries in the world delivered some thngs that were implemented to confirm that their palm oil products would be legal and traceable, as in European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

Each country described every progress from five work frames that were decided in the previous meeting. European Union reemphasized its commitment to get closer cooperation with Indonesia and Malaysia to escalate free – deforestation (products). The biggest challenge was how to confirm the smallholders would be involved in more transparent supply chain – the optimism remained high.

One significant output from the meeting was the plan to conduct training of trainers about EUDR intensively in Malaysia in November 2024. The program would be about to deliver practical guidelines for the smallholders in commodity sectors so they would be more prepared to face the closer EUDR. The same training would be too in Indonesia.

Besides, there would be dialogues among the private sectors in the two countries before EUDR would be officially implemented. This should get the discussion for every stakeholder to get the best solution for the industrial sustainability and the smallholders’ welfare.

The collaboration among European Union, Indonesia, and Malaysia in the meeting would be the significant symbol to fight global – scale deforestation. The synergy should confirm not only the sustainable supply chain but also open the path for the greener and more sustainable commodity trade in the future. (T2)
