InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted Indonesia Downstream Palm Oil Industry Business Forum as the way to get palm oil diplomacy and promote downstream products to many countries. It was running in Jakarta, attended by 128 participants, including the buyer candidates, and national scale – stakeholders.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pahala Nugraha Mansury in his speech emphasized that Indonesia would be the main actor in palm oil industries in the world. These contributed 59% of crude palm oil (CPO) production in the world with the exports reaching about US$ 28,45 billion. Besides becoming the significant economic sector, palm oil massively contributed to social development, and conquer the poverty.
But palm oil industries also faced the global scale – challenges, such as, unfair trade barriers – European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). In the forum, he emphasized, it would need cooperation among the developing countries to solve the challenges, getting more members of Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), getting the same research, and increasing the investments.
“This forum should minimize mis-conception about palm oil industries, develop new partnership, open the chance to collaborate that would lead palm oil industries of Indonesia to the higher level,” Pahala said, in the official statement as InfoSAWIT quoted, Saturday (12/10/2024).
Chairman of Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA), Eddy Martono did appreciate the initiative of the ministry to conduct the forum and emphasized Indonesia should have the strong commitment to qualify and surpass every international scale – regulation in palm oil industries.
The business forum also provided the platform for national and international scale stakeholders to get business matching in four main sectors – oleofood, phytonutrients, oleochemical and biomaterial, renewable energy, and organic fertilizers from palm oil side products. Besides, the forum showed up cooking demonstration to show up the mainstay of palm oil products in food industries.
The foreign participants once visited PT Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology Tbk (SMART) to know about palm oil research and operation that qualified sustainability standards. (T2)
