InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Holding Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) through Sub Holding PTPN IV PalmCo targeted that 2,1 million superior palm oil seeds would be sold to the smallholders by the late of 2024. This would be part of PTPN IV to escalate their plantation productivity in this country.

Director of PTPN IV PalmCo, Jatmiko Santosa said that the company has prepared five superior oil palm oil seed breading locations to realize it. “Since the program started in 2021, we knew that there would be increasing demands on certified palm oil seeds from the smallholders,” Jatmiko said in the official statement, as InfoSAWIT quoted, Friday (11/10/2024).

By the late of the third quarter of 2024, the smallholders purchased about 1,6 superior palm oil seeds in Jambi and Riau Province. He would be optimist that the 2,1 million palm oil seed – target would be realized by the late of December 2024 as the smallholders replanting program kept running.

The superior seeds would be expanded to many other provinces in Indonesia, from Sumatera to Kalimantan. “We hope that by preparing the superior seeds, the smallholders’ plantation productivity would be increasing and production disparity between the smallholders and big companies would be mimimal,” Jatmiko said.

Survey dara from Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit revealed that many smallholders in Indonesia should get trapped for planting fake palm oil seeds. 37 percent smallholders were the victim of fraud, while the 20 percent did not know how or where to purchase legal seeds. Besides, some smallholders purchased the seeds for the cheap price or they were difficult to qualify every condition to get legal seeds.

To help them solve the issues, PTPN IV PalmCo developed the application sawit rakyat online (SRO). Director of Institutional Relationship PTPN IV, Irwan Perangin-Angin said that the application was downloaded by more than 10.000 times and it was formulated to deliver information about legal palm oil seeds in the available breeding locations.
