The Stakeholders in China: Commitment to Increase Sustainable Palm Oil Use

InfoSAWIT, NANJING – The 8th Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil China Forum (8th RSPO China Forum) in 2024 firmly proclaimed action to increase inclusivity and sustainability in palm oil supply chain. The event that was conducted at Shangri-La Hotel, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, focused on some significant roles of certified sustainable palm oil to minimize green-house gas (GHG) emission, introduce new sustainability initiatives, and emphasize the significance of good partnership to encourage market transformation in China.

The forum that was organized together with China Chambers of Commerce of Import and Export Foodstuff and Native Produce and Animals (CFNA) and RSPO, showed up the sustainability from Chinese companies. The event significantly got the participation from RSPO members, governments’ institutions, industrial associations, financial institutions, non-government organizations, and certification boards. The discussion focused on the same responsibility in palm oil supply chain, urged every stakeholder to increase their commitment in sustainable production and trade.

CEO RSPO, Joseph D’Cruz said that the roles of the forum would be about to increase the awareness and promote certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) in China. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of RSPO, he noted that more than 300.000 hectares of forests in conservation areas, got the transition hardly five million hectares of palm oil plantations to be sustainable production, certified more than 20% of the total production globally.

Joseph also said the partnership value locally, including the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for five years with CFNA, re-emphasized the supports from RSPO for sustainability goals in the country. “By increasing sustainability performances and claiming for transparency, we would encourage CSPO consumption and procurement sustainably in China,” D’Cruz said, as InfoSAWIT quoted from the official page of RSPO.

The main discussions in the forum were introduction to certification platform, trade and new traceability in RSPO and Prisma (Palm Resource Information and Sustainability Management). Formulated to increase trade efficiency and confirming to obey global scale – regulation, Prisma would be about to facilitate CSPO among RSPO members and traders in many regions.(T2)
