
InfoSAWIT, PALANGKARAYA – Palm oil plantation company in Central Kalimantan Province, PT. Sawit Sumbermas Sarana (SSMS) Tbk., in cooperation with Yayasan Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) successfully took 2 (two) orangutans that were rehabilitated from Sekolah Hutan Nyaru Menteng to start the final rehabilitation process before being released to the wild. It was on Wednesday (2/10/2024).
It would be the significant thing to multiply orangutan population in Badak Besar Island in clusters of Salat Island, Regency of Pulang Pisau, Central Kalimantan Province.
The two orangutans are female and male. They intensively got rehabilitation process at Sekolah Hutan Nyaru Menteng and they would be ready to continue their journeys for the next level in the orangutan pre – release in Badak Besar Island.
The cluster of Salat Island that SSMS and BOSF cultivated and managed, laid on for more than 2.000 hectares and would be very significant for orangutan conservation in the province for the outstanding ecosystem and similar to the natural habitat of orangutan. It is full of natural sources of food and the isolation would support the adaptation and socialization.
CEO PT. Sawit Sumbermas Sarana Tbk., Jap Hartono emphasized, SSMS would always be committed to the sustainability and protection for orangutan. This would be the evidence of dedication to conserve every living creature.
“Our cooperation with BOSF means our commitment to the environmental sustainability and natural conservation,” he said to InfoSAWIT.
The initiative would be about not only responsibility of SSMS but emphasizd the it would be significant to get conservation and return every orangutan to their natural habitat. By the two, the total population of orangutan in Badak Besar Island is 41, they would adjust their instinct and natural behavior as the preparation to get back to the wild. (T2)
