Indonesia and Belgium: Would Cooperate in Sustainable Palm Oil Trade

InfoSAWIT, BRUSSELS – Vice Minister of Trade, Jerry Sambuaga said that Indonesia and Beligium would track down to get cooperation in sustainable trade. The two countries would be committed to increase the environmental standard and practices to process sustainable resources and develop renewable energy.

Jerry said that when attending Indonesia – Belgium Business Forum in Brussels, Belgium, Tuesday (24/9). It was also attended by the Ambassadors of Indonesia for Belgium, Andri Hadi and Director of Southeast Asia and Oceania Foreign Federal Public Service of Belgium, Francois Delhaye.

"Indonesia and Belgium are tracking down the sustainable trade cooperation. It is hoped to take advantages on the two countries’ potential to reinforce the trade relationship,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Monday (30/9/2024).

In the business forum, Belgium stated their will to deliver consultation and technical supports for Indonesia. The supports would be about to increase the sustainable agricultural capacities, developing renewable energy, and implementing circular economic practices.

Jerry also emphasized it would be significant to implement sustainable practices namely in palm oil production. The companies that attended it, mentioned sustainable palm oil production should involve the local in the supply chain.

Jerry continued that Indonesia actively cooperate with European Union about sustainable trade, including Belgium. “We hope it would reinforce the cooperation, namely in renewable energy and material sectors. The Government of Indonesia would keep doing the best to simplify the business process to increase the trade,” he said.

He also mentioned that it would need the good collaboration among the stakeholders to develop the trust and realize the same goal in the sustainable development. Indonesia would support the green deal of European Union as the way to increase the environmental cooperation standards even it would need clearer standards and definition.

Besides, he also said about global gateway initiative of European Union which the goal would be about to support sustainable project through the efficient investment mechanism. Belgium itself take part in the fair energy transition with Indonesia that focuses on energy decarbonization. (T2)
