
InfoSAWIT, LAOS – Subholding PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) IV (PalmCo) re-got the international scale achievement by getting the 2024 ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA). It was handed over by ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE) as the acknowledgment on the company’s commitment to take advantages on new renewable energy by processing palm oil mill effluent (POME).
Director of PTPN IV PalmCo, Jatmiko Santosa directly got the award in Vientiane, Laos, Friday (27/09/2024). Region Head PTPN IV Regional III, Rurianto did attend too. The award was part of series of the 42nd ASEAN Minister on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and the 24th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF).
PalmCo successfully got the first rank in ASEAN Renewable Energy Project Awards category for the project of Palm Oil Mill Biogas Cofiring in Sei Tapung, Regency of Kampar, Riau Province. The project produced energy up to 25 million kilo calory per year and could absorb 18,5 thousand tons CO2 equivalent per year. Energy from the project would be used to the boilers in the Sei Tapung mill that significantly contributed to reduce diesel fuel consumption.
“We are proud of the award. It would be the acknowledgement on our consistency to take advantages on renewable energy. This would be the spirit to keep expanding environmental energy, as same as the company’s transformation and the national scale vision, heading to net zero emission,” Jatmiko said, as in the official statement, as InfoSAWIT quoted, Monday (30/9/2024).
In a whole, PalmCo operated eight new renewable energy facilities – seven of them optimally operated. The company totally produced 5,3 megawatt - power plants and 64,7 million kilo calory per year. The facilities could absorb almost up to 150 thousand tons carbon per year, as part of the company to support the target of the Government of Indonesia to realize net zero emission in 2060.
Jatmiko continued that PalmCo planned to multiply the other 29 new renewable energy facilities until 2030. It would be in cooperation with the domestic and international scale – partners. One project to go is to constructe sustainable aviation fuel in cooperation with reNikola, Malaysia.
ASEAN Energy Awards is the highest award in Southeast Asia. It was conducted by ASEAN Center for Energy since 2000. It was about to promote renewable energy advantage and efficiency in ASEAN region. The 2024 award would be the third time for PTPN IV PalmCo after it got the same in 2023 and 2014. (T2)
