InfoSAWIT, BRUSSELS – Vice Minister of Trade Indonesian Republic, Jerry Sambuaga would be optimist that the trade agreement between Indonesia and European Union would be accomplished this year. He told that in an interview with Bloomberg in Brussels, Belgium, Tuesday (24/9).
He said about the challenges that the two faced, namely about deforestation regulation by European Union through European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). It would be about to minimize forest cut that would relate to the main commodity demands, such as, palm oil, and coffee where Indonesia is one biggest producer of the two commodities.
EUDR triggered tension of trade relationship between Indonesia and Europe. Indonesia was one vocal critic to the regulation. It happened for there would be negative impacts for export commodities from Indonesia and asked if there would be exception for having certificate scheme in the domestic and Europe would acknowledge it.
He would be optimist that both parties would get profitable agreement in this very short. “We do hope that the trade agreement would be accomplished this year and we would do the best to struggle for what Indonesia’s interests in the dialogue,” he said, as in the official statement, as InfoSAWIT quoted, Thursday (26/9/2024).
The trade agreement between Indonesia and European Union should also massively deliver advantages for both parties namely in commodity trade and main exports, such as, palm oil and commodity from Indonesia. (T2)
