InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Indonesia published many regulations to support and encourage sustainable palm oil practices. Here are the main legal that regulate sustainability in palm oil sectors in Indonesia, such as, President’s Instruction Number 6 / 2019 about National Action Plan Sustainable Palm Oil or Rencana Aksi Nasional Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan (RAN-KSB).
Then President’s Regulation Number Number 44 / 2020 about Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil Plantation Certification; Regulation of Minister of Agriuculture Number 38 / 2020 about the Implementation of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil Plantation.
Besides, sustainable palm oil certification policy is regulated in the Laws Number 20 / 2014 about Standardization and Adjustment Assessment. The laws would be the main reference to get certification process and other related programs. Until now the indicator of the program has been implemented in 11 regencies.
“One significant element in the policy is cultivation document. It has some significant aspects, such as, to confirm aspect of legality. Cultivation document would deliver evidence of legal palm oil cultivation,” the representative of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) Commission, Herdrajat Natawijaya said.
In association with deforestation, having cultivation documents would confirm that (palm oil) cultivation has nothing to do with deforestation because the plantations are out of forest areas. The last is about to confirm geo-location. Cultivation documents should put coordinates and polygon that show where the plantations are.
“It means, cultivation documents adjusted with European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The smallholders that got cultivation documents can trade their palm oil products to the exporters to be sold in European,” he said in an event in Jakarta that InfoSAWIT attended.
The policy and regulation showed the commitment of Indonesia to support sustainable palm oil practices and confirmed that palm oil products were qualified international scale – standards. (T2)
